Following recent amendments to the Intellectual Property Code, the two figures of the Collective Trade Mark and the Certification Trade Mark have been distinguished. By 23.03.2020 it will be mandatory to convert already filed Collective trade marks into one or the other form, under penalty of lapse. The conversion must take place by filing a specific application with the UIBM, and the duration of the title will be modified: while remaining 10 years, it will run from the date of conversion. Together with the application, the trade mark regulations must be re-filed. In the case of renewal of a collective trade mark before 23.03.2020, the conversion application must be submitted within the renewal deadline.
